In One of Colombia’s Most Dangerous Areas
Father Luis Mendenez, a Benedictine monk from the Confessing Anglican Church’s monastery in Florida, kneels and comforts a child on the streets of Olaya Herrera, one of the most dangerous areas in Cartenga and well-known for its gang violence. It lies within what observers call the “belt of extreme poverty,” and has a violent death rate that is three times the national average!
Traveling there not only with the Gospel and the love of Christ, but with gifts for the poor children, Archbishop Misael Carmenates and Father Luis led the mission trip into Colombia. While there, they conducted street outreaches, met with and prayed for residents, and celebrated mass to deliver the most needed gift of all — the body and blood of Christ.
