Announcing Aidan University Seminary of South Sudan

The Diocese of South Sudan and Congo has reached a critical turning point. In the midst of numerous challenges, our churches are growing in number.

But our greatest need today is the training of future leaders who can uphold the faith, teach sound doctrine, and lead with integrity and vision. Without trained ministers, the Church risks losing direction and future generations to spiritual drought.

After long reflection and fervent prayer, the Diocese has resolved to initiate a theological college under the auspices and supervision of Aidan University beginning in the academic year of 2025, with the enrolment of 20 pioneer students. These are passionate young men and women who have committed their lives to God’s service. Some of the men have been ordained, but lack the opportunity for formal theological education to lead a church due to high cost of such training in neighboring countries. The average cost of sponsoring a single student for the three-year training program can cost over USD $10,000.

The Building Process Begins

Having engaged local congregations to assist with the making of bricks, the diocese broke ground this summer on the initial building.

Bishop Yepeta Nathan Sika Usala, the Bishop Ordinary for the Diocese of South Sudan and the Congo, said, “The Diocese has already mobilized local support in terms of food supplies (such as maize, rice, beans, cassava, Groundnuts and vegetables) to feed the 20 students throughout their training period. And the Church has pledged to do so for the next 3 years. Additionally, our students have demonstrated tremendous dedication by voluntarily agreeing to sleep on bare floors for the full three years, understanding that the Church cannot currently provide beds or mattresses. Their willingness to endure discomfort for the sake of the Gospel is both humbling and deeply inspiring. The teaching staff also has willingly agreed to work full time only to receive and equivalent $ 50, which is a tremendous sacrifice.”

BUILDING NEARS COMPLETION

Students and teachers are due to arrive in a few weeks to begin their training. The school includes classrooms and a small-roomed library.

Once the building is completed, the Diocese will prepare to accommodate the incoming students. Kitchen Utensils, plates and cups will be provided to the students, as well as assorted food items like oil, salts, and other necessities. Furniture to facilitate the educational process, including chairs, tables for the teaching staff and a blackboard are on order and due to arrive in the coming days.

Together we are stepping into a monumental undertaking—one that we believe the Lord has called and equipped us for. As we move forward, our prayer is that the reach and impact of this work will continue to grow, bearing fruit for the Kingdom.

To grow the Kingdom and obey Christ’s command, we need well-trained disciples of Christ who are prepared to engage the world with their gifts and calling. We are preparing these students to be leaders of the faith in their nation and their churches. A vibrant local church allows its people to grow in holiness.

Your faithful prayers are not just appreciated—they are essential. We ask you to stand with us in intercession, trusting that God will multiply what we offer and guide every step of the journey.
