Report from G26 – Abuja

The Future
Has Arrived !

A Global Gathering

347 Anglican bishops and 121 lay and clerical Anglican leaders from 27 provinces met in Abuja Nigeria from 3-6 March 2026, generously hosted by our brothers and sisters in the Church of Nigeria.

Why Were We There

We convened to prayerfully confer with the other delegates, to assist in the drafting of and voting on the Abuja Affirmation  and to celebrate the establishment of the Global Anglican Communion, founded on the person and work of Jesus Christ and the authority of his word, and His commission to make disciples of all nations.

The Global Anglican Communion

Our Abuja Affirmation is that we and our global household of faithful Anglicans will also serve the Lord.

A Call To Biblical Faithfulness

Joshua 24:15 declares, “Choose this day whom you will serve.” This clarion call goes out from the scriptures to all of us who wish to stand with faithful Anglicans across the globe in the Global Anglican Communion. Joshua’s answer was clear – As for me and my house – we will serve the Lord.

As members of the Global Anglican Communion, the Confessing Anglican Church declares with unwavering conviction that we stand behind this promise. We do so not timidly, but with bold faith, resolute unity, and steadfast commitment—determined to uphold its truth and advance its mission as one body under Christ.

Your Place Among Global Anglicans

All 347 Bishops who stood together in Abuja repeated this promise. If you see yourself as one who wishes to stand with other faithful Anglicans, I invite you to make this promise your own.  As the Abuja Affirmation states, “The Global Anglican Communion is neither a breakaway Communion nor an alternative Communion.

The Jerusalem Statement clearly says that “We cherish our Anglican heritage and the Anglican Communion and have no intention of departing from it”. What has occurred instead is a shift of the stewardship of the Anglican Communion from the Canterbury Instruments to the Global Anglican Communion. We are returning the Anglican Communion to its roots. The Global Anglican Communion is not a new Communion, but the historic Anglican Communion reordered from within.”

The Confessing Anglican Church Celebrates

For the Confessing Anglican Church, we wish to highlight several points from Archbishop Mbanda’s message which are particularly relevant:

The Global Anglican Council: We celebrate the election of Archbishop Laurent Mbanda as Chair, Archbishop Miguel Uchôa as Deputy Chair, and our own Bishop Paul Donison as General Secretary of this newly constituted Council.

A Confessional Identity: Our unity with our Anglican brethren around the world is found in our shared confession, the Jerusalem Declaration, rather than in institutional ties to the See of Canterbury,

Principled Disengagement: Our leaders are called to a clear separation from aspects of communion that have compromised the Gospel. We serve the Lord, not an institutional relic.

Faithful Guardians

We are called to be faithful guardians of the Anglican doctrine and the bonds of fellowship entrusted to us, preserving them for this generation and those to come.

The Abuja Affirmation reminds us that this mission is not ours alone. We belong to a worldwide household of faith—apostolic in its foundation and expansive in its reach.

May the Lord grant us courage to stand with one another, humility to submit to one another, and grace to serve alongside one another, so that together we may bear fruit as we advance the Kingdom of Jesus Christ on the foundation of His Word.
